Universal Children's Day 2011

Dear Parents,

The Next Generation School would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us to celebrate Universal Children's Day on 20th November 2011.

Universal Children's day was established by the United Nations in 1954 to encourage understanding between children and promote children's welfare around the world. Recognising children importance in today's society, the Next Generation School is proud to announce that we  will be hosting a 'Spell-a-thon' evening on 20th November 2011 at the TNG campus between 5:30pm – 8:30pm.

This event will be an opportunity for students all over Qatar, to come together to take part in a fun filled evening, whilst enhancing their cross curricular competencies both academically and socially. This includes intellectual, methodological, both personal and social as well as  communication-related competency.

The Spell-a-thon is a quiz night themed around vocabulary, geared towards 3 age groups:- 7-8 years old, 8-9 years old and lastly 9-10 years old. Participants would be split up into the above age groups.

First round of participation is – 'Spell-a-thon'; Consists of contestants being tested on various vocabulary words which will be extracted from a passage they would be required to study prior to the game. The passages can be found on our school website. Students who score 50% or more will qualify for round two.

The second round - 'Word Sudoku'; Involves the contestants being presented with a square containing 9 letters. The middle letter will be the main letter and would be required to be used in each word. The longer the words the higher the points. Again students scoring 50%  and more will qualify for the third and final round.

The third round - 'Word Attack'; The final contestants would be are giving a letter and a category. They will have one minute to come up with as many words beginning with that letter related to the category. For example – letter ‘S’ and category ‘animals’—snake, snail, sea lion….

The winner and runner up shall be receiving rewarding gifts, whilst other participants will be award certification of participation.

The full detailed program and game rules will be published onto the TNG website. The pupils will be able to download the required passage of text and spelling lists from our website.

We are welcoming all interested 7-10 year old students to take part in our Spell-a-thon evening.
